This is going to be a fun year for OSU, I like teams that are improving toward the top, and this is one of them. Minn may have the all-americans and points in the big dance this year, but OSU is in position to make another 4 year run starting in 2008. I see ISU having a ton of points to deal with next year also. We don't match up with Iowa about the same way Minn won't match up with OSU in a dual this year. I predict OSU will beat Minn, Minn will beat Iowa, and Iowa will beat OSU. NCAA's will finish Minn, OSU, Iowa. If I was John Smith and had the power to schedule my wrestlers redshirts, I would sit Coleman and Nathan this year, but it would be tough to convince them of the logic of it. John never gave up a single leg (figure of speech) let alone a year of competition in order to better secure a national title. I had the same idea when Espo was a senior with a redshirt to burn. Would OSU have won the title w/o Espo(yes), would OSU be in the title hunt with Espo wrestling last year(yes). I know John won't do something like that because its not his character to run from anything. In order to be the best, beat the best. A cut above, that why he's John and his wrestlers must rise to the occasion. How do you guys see it? L8agin

I say if we can beat em in a dual, we can beat em in a tourney..............John will have em ready come tourney time just like when Mark Branch came to the tourney as a freshman with a losing record and won the whole thing. Don't underestimate the talent in the room.....our coaches are second to none and our wrestlers will answer the call come March...........Go Pokes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't OSU lose to Minn in a dual(s), and then win in the tournament? There is a thing called scoring, duals are scored one way, tournaments are scored another. Teams don't win the team titles, individuals win as many matches as they can, assigned a certain number of points for their efforts and totaled with the other individuals on the same team. The winner of the "team" title is determined by the most points of those individuals "assigned to them" by a scoring system that changes from time to time with as many as a nine member "team" deficit. That's not what I consider a "team" title. The dual format such as the Virginia Duals or National Duals seems more of a team title to me. L8agin

I agree that the tourney at the end should determine the best in the country and I would say that the number of participants should be increased......every year good wrestlers are left at home because of limited numbers allowed per conference....taking 5th in the B12 or 8th in the B10 doesn't mean your not an AA candidate at the end.....that being said, our team is grossly underestimated right now (5th)IMHO and I think John will have them ready to compete for the team title in March even though we are not favored to do so..........look at New England Patriots....it is an us versus the rest of the world mentality and it puts a chip on your shoulder and brings out the best in athletes.

I'm expecting a huge year out of Ben Ashmore. It should be a great wrestle-off when the spring semester rolls around and Shinn can wrestle. Great to have options like that. Also, I think Clayton Foster could provide a big boost if the vets struggle early.

Everything we get this year is a bonus, I have a feeling next year will be big for OK State. This year I can sit back and enjoy as the wrestlers get better and better. I remember when Kendall broke out his first year with a big win over Bill Kelly. Chesbro, Barnes, Chuck, Wes White, Pat, JJ(transfer), and Alan, it seems the first year is always the most exciting to watch. This year is Ben's turn. He don't need to win it all to be great. We will see if he has it in him to be best, even in a loss. I love to watch the wrestlers improve from one match to the next. That's what will make this year so good. Also Cody, Neil, and possible Clayton, whoever ends up at 149 and 165 will be fun as well. L8agin

Coaches poll just came out....OSU ranked #2.....I guess they feel the same way I do.....If you can beat the best in a dual you should beat the rest in the tourney.

That's a nice thought, but totally untrue. Points are guaranteed in a dual, hard to come by in a tournament. Plus what are you going say when Iowa beats OSU (HAHAHA). L8agin

Just saw on another board that Yoder is hoping to come to Ok. State. I hope OSU is going after this kid cuz the 4 times I've seen him wrestle he looked really tough....very hard to score on....very athletic.
