EARL, Yes, I'll see you tomorrow evening at UMD. By the way, former Navy EIWA champ and NCAA finalist Wayne Hicks posted the Navy matchups. The Navy Blue/Gold wrestleoffs are Oct 26 at 7 pm (19:00) in Halsey Field House.
125 - Joe Boone (from CA) v Allen Stein (ME); 133 Matt Pagan (NJ) v Joe Breen (MD) [Wayne Hicks says Joe Baker is being held out of the wrestleoffs]; 141 Glen Shober (PA) v Caleb Levee (LA); 149 Joel Ahern (NY) v Spencer Manley (TN); 157 Joe Butcher (NJ) v Rob Neill (NJ); 165 Jason Coyne (PA) v Justin Jacobs (MI); 174 Matt Stolpinski (MA) v Ben Nichols (MD); 184 Casey Caldwell (IN) v Matt Parsons (MD); 197 Robert Johnson (FL) v Tyler Moyer (MD); and 285 Scott Steele (MD) v Ed Prendergast (MO). -Stove Pipe

^^^I attended the University of Maryland wrestleoffs tonight (10/25/07). Here are the results in the order the matches were wrestled:
125 - Brendan Bryne tallied a stall point and escape to decision James Knox 2-1. Bryne is tall and big and looks like he’s going to have a time staying down and competing at 125 this season. I’d guess Bryne and Knox might end up co-starting? (Also, Lou Ruland was held out tonight, and I assume he could get in the hunt to start at 125, too,)
125 - Pat Strizki majored Will Sharbaugh 10-2. Word around College Park is that Strizki is a likely redshirt this season.
133 - Steve Bell dec Mookie Golden 11-4.
141 - Jon Kohler (3 TD’s) dec Charlie Pinto 8-5.
141 - Lederer dec Bogusz 3-2.
141/149 - Alex Krom majored Kyle John 15-6. Several comments on Krom. Off-season talk was that he will redshirt this season. Also, Krom is a horse, and from where I was sitting, that kid is a 149 pounder.
149 - Eric Medina looked sharp, pinning Matt MacLean in the first period.
149 - In the other match at 149 tonight, Ryan Brown dec Cory Biscaha 4-2.
157 - Brian Letters majored Clint Stout 10-2. It looks to me like Letters will be the starter this season at 157.
157 - Hawvermale won by default (first period) when Jake Fedechko got his right knee injured in a scramble.
165 - Mike McGill dec Ryan Kennett 10-3.
174 - Mike Letts teched Rothstein (I think it was Rothstein) 17-0.
184 - I saw Josh Haines in the gym, but he did not wrestle, and there was no bout at 184.
197 - No bout. Obviously Hudson Taylor would be the starter.
285 – Pat Gilmore pinned Tom Sitar in the third period. Gilmore was well ahead at the time. (Bryan Reiss was held out.)

Surprising result that Kohler beat Pinto. Do Bell, Byrne and Letters look like they can do some damage this year?

^^^ne125, My pedestrian opinion is as follows:
1)Kohler has gotten physically bigger and two-steps better than he was last season, and Pinto, who I view as a total warrior, perhaps has not been able to recover 100% from a couple of shoulder injuries that have frustrated his college wrestling career.
2)YES, Bell and Letters are tough as owl droppings and both are capable of top 2 or 3 finishes in the 2008 ACC Tournament. (As you all know, Brian and Troy Letters are first cousins.)
3)I think Byrne is a tall and big 125 pounder, and if he can function at that weight all season long, would be in the hunt to win the ACC title.
Thank you for your interest in Terp Wrestling, -Stove Pipe
