2013-14 D1CW Big Ten Wrestler of the Year: David Taylor (Penn State) In a season full of upsets and unexpected occurances, the one constant was Penn State's David Taylor. At 34-0, Taylor was the only wrestler who finished the season undefeated. In doing so he won his second NCAA Championship in his fourth NCAA Final. Only two of Taylor's 2013-14 bouts were regular decisions (both were to his NCAA Finals opponent Tyler Caldwell). After the season he also received his second career Hodge Trophy. For his career Taylor finished 134-3 and 121 of those wins earned bonus points.
2013-14 D1CW Big Ten Coach of the Year: Cael Sanderson (Penn State) Penn State became only the third team to win four consecutive NCAA Team Championships, a feat only Iowa and Oklahoma State had previously accomplished. The Nittany Lions put seven wrestlers onto the podium for the first time since 1992 and had two individual champions David Taylor and Ed Ruth. Taylor became the schools first four-time NCAA Finalist, while Ruth was PSU's first three-time NCAA Champion. Penn State also captured its fourth consecutive Big Ten Title, while Taylor and Ruth were the first fourth time Big Ten Champions in school history.
2013-14 D1CW Big Ten Freshman of the Year: Jason Tsirtsis (Northwestern) A 3-1 win in sudden victory over Josh Kindig of Oklahoma State, gave Jason Tsirtsis a National Title, the first Northwestern history by a Freshman. Tsirtsis finished the season on a 16 match winning streak, which included his first Big Ten Title. In order for Tsirtsis to make the NCAA Finals he needed to overcome Penn State's Cinderella story James English, 2013 NCAA Champ Kendric Maple and the #1 seed Drake Houdashelt of Missouri.
