We are averageing the loss of one team per year because of the mismanagement of title IX legal loopholes.
At this rate how small do you folks invision the D-1 tournament becomeing some day?
With the way D-2 and D-3 award "grant" money and the way its worded, does anyone see the D-2 tournament becoming more exciting and powerful in say around 20 years? Of course all things must remain the same and keep running its current pace.
Anyway, I have always enjoyed forcasting future events but this particular situation does not appear to have a happy ending.
How many participating D-1 schools do we have left in wrestling?

While we have lost team after team recently I think that D1 Wrestling has as much parity as ever. Thats a good thing. Teams like Missouri, Northwestern, and American all had national champs in 2007. None have been thought of as traditional powers. You also have high profile coaches like Zalesky in Oregon, Bono at UTC, McCoy at Stanford, and Garland at UVA who all have made strides in attempting to build powerhouse programs.
The teams that need to be nervous are any team in the non Big-10/12 who have not had some sort of commitment made to the team by administration. (For instance, a few of the ACC schools are now fully-funded schlorship wise, when they hadn't previousley).

Well, I can see wrestling(and other non $ sports) fighting back some day and declaring the smaller sports go D-2 while there Basketball, Football, and Baseball programs stay D-1. If something like this were done then it opens up a whole new set of legalities to circumnavigate and allow more wrestlers to get more money for school. I personally see it coming. After all, wasn't it Virginia Tech who used to play football in the Big East and Wrestle in the Eastern Athletic Association or something like that? If this can be allowed then I don't see why a school couldn't declare different divisions all together.

VT played football in the Big East, but ther is no big east wrestling, thus they, WVU, and Pitt wrestled in the eastern wrestling league. Pitt and WVU are still in the EWL.

Sorry, I mean "Thom". and conference not division. And also, does anyone want to take a stab at my original question? "Does anyone ever see D-2 becoming as strong or stronger then d-1. There is some serious talent floating around in D-2 right now.
