Poor choice for such an elite wrestler.

The kid is a man/child, but in the few matches i've watched him wrestle, he manages them poorly. He likes to keep things on his feet, but after he cuts them doesn't get aggressive enough and keeps the other guy in it. To be successful he needed to go somewhere different.

I too am sad that someone with that much potential has chosen to go to Rutgers. I hope there will be someone in the room who can make him better along with his coach.
He WILL improve, the question in my mind is how much.
I wish him the very best.

Just re-read my post ... by no means did I mean his coach needs to improve. I meant to word it so it read that I hope someone was in the room - a team member to help him (Winston) improve.

From what I've heard former Clarion AA and UFC star Frank Edgar will be an assistant. He fights at 155 so I imagine before cutting he is right around Winston's size. I don't know how good of an actual coach he is, but he should be a good workout partner.

I think that if Rutgers gets behind this program it can get very successful quikly. Their new coach has a great rep in NJ. but he is only working with 4.6 scholarships. probably 3.6 now. Even for instate Rutgers gets near $25K I think. Tough mountain to climb. Scott wasn't pushed by the competition often but when he was he stepped up. Best wishes to Scott and team.
