How does Varner not fire himself up to get bonus points? #1 v. unranked and it looked like he was wrestling an all american. He didn't do one offensive move the ENTIRE MATCH. He counters and counters and that's all. Don't give me "It's his style" If his style involves zero offense ever, then he is officially the worst wrestler to recieve the number 1 ranking. He has to lose at NCAA's he just has to.

I couldn't agree more. I started a thread on the mat about "the style" and how wrong it is for the refs to swallow their whistles until the last 15 seconds. It is a huge advantage for " the style". Just get strong and never get out of position. Jake is one of many. Mason scored 8 points in the 1st period and did nothing for the next 4 minutes. Newly didn't take a shot until the 6:58 mark, and rarely does. DS is lauded for never getting out of position, how many shots did he take when he beat Espo? Zero. These are the guys that are the best at "the style" but they are not the only ones. OU's entire team is taught this abhorable philosophy and they have continued to slip out of the top 20. Teyon Ware is another master of the style. The kid was an amazing athlete but down by 1 point with a little over 1 minute left to go in the last match of your college life, score and you are a 3 timer, and he never took a legitimate shot. A few half shots hoping Gallick would reshoot so he could counter and he lost by 1 point. I'll get off the podium and let others join in, but I am ready for this wave to be over and the next more innovative wave to come thru and give the great sport of wrestling a breathe of fresh air.

I hope it's not the beginning of a wide spread trend, and if it is, i hope there are metcalfs at every weight class to negate the WIMPS.
