www.intermatwrestle.com/news/newsdisplay.aspx?ID=6364"The NCAA Wrestling Committee has notified participants of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational held November 30 and December 1 that results will not be considered for seeding and NCAA championships-selection purposes because the tournament did not conduct required medical examinations." My commentary: It's absolutely absurd. The Nobody Cares About the Athletes shouldn't be able to go back and say "this result doesn't count" because of an administrative error, one that had nothing to do with the wrestling itself. I mean, if the NCAA were to say that they won't sanction the event for the 2008-2009 season, we might complain, but not because the integrity of the sport is ruined. This, very simply, brings into doubt the very integrity of the NCAA as an organization.

Agreed....oh wait, there was never any doubt about the NCAA not having integrity. If the average wrestling match had 14,000 fans attend across the country, we would be on tv in march. If they even smell any money available they do more, if not they make rediculous rulings like this.

The guys on this committee are nothing like you folks are portraying. I know 3 of them. They are decent people. I do agree this decision is poor. I would prefer they sanction the tournament, the officials, the coaches and any NCAA officials in attendance. All of these grown ups are responsible for enforcing the rules, not the wrestlers. This MRSA is very nasty stuff. One on our team had it. It took 5 months to excise and cure. Don't confuse this with worm, or most infectious skin diseases or even other staph. This is virulent. I am fairly sure the comittee just wanted to make a drastic statement. Sadly the wrong people bore the brunt of it.

Heh Willy I agree. The NCAA has been a thorn in the side of the sport of wrestling for 60 years and maybe more? They have shut down more wrestling than anybody in the wrestling world. And right behind them is the ( gov. ) with title 9, I think that is what it is. Maybe USA wrestling should take the lead in college wrestling. The NCAA is interested in money. Maybe USA Wrestling could take this sport out of the NCAA realm of influence. Do you really think that the " NCAA" will be so upset. No! Other than there control of there influence. Gee whizz the NCAA puts in rowing teams, girls cheer leading teams, if you know what I am saying than start Yelling at someone. Let`s see; Yoga teams compete and the winner is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you love the sport of wrestling, start confronting the system. I know this is small compared to the wrestling world. I said what my heart felt.

I agree that this is serious stuff but punishing the wrestlers??? Punish the tournament, coaches, officials whoever. That had no impact on the outcome of the matches. Neither wrestler in any match was given an edge.
I know the NCAA won't count matches in open tournaments where the matches are less than seven minutes. I can understand this because the guy with the better conditioning gets the short end of the stick. Here that doesn't apply. Two guys wrestled a seven minute match and a winner was decided.
There are a few guys who this could impact greatly. Kellen Russell and Darrion Caldwell come to mind.
Russell beat three past AA's there Drew Headlee, Charles Griffin, and J Jaggers. Griffin has beat him since and he wrestles Jaggers again later this season.
Caldwell beat AA's Josh Churella, and JP O'Connor. He won't see either again.
So these matches don't count!!!! That could make a huge difference in both of these guy's seeding.

Earl-Not quite true regarding the open tournaments thing...the NCAA won't count matches in open tournaments where the matches are fewer than SIX minutes, not seven.

Well, hopefully the seeding committee will take it into account even though the match "doesn't count".
