I don't know if it's a good thing or not but every one of the Boise State wrestlers received a BYE in the first (pigtail) round.

Good job Boise! I see you've had an "upset" win already. I fondly remember Larry Quisel and his folks. Rode the train with Dad & Mum to 'finals day' when Larry went from losing first match to 3rd.. . Sweet; as the kids say.

Boise State's had a couple of upset wins today. Unseeded Kurt Swartz at 165 lbs beat the # 15 ranked guy in the country (Zach Shanaman of Penn) 6-2. And Boise State's heavyweight, Nick Smith (formerly at Virginia) beat the # 13 ranked guy in the nation (Zach Schaeffer of Pittsburgh). Yeah, I remember back when Larry Quisel did that. That was quite the accomplishment to win all those matches in the consolation bracket to place 3rd that year.

Ranking shake ups abound in Las Vegas. Get out the charts and score books, the faint hearted need not try. This is a grand year for college wrestling. I am having too much fun. Great matches and great talent on display.
