2007's #1 Recruit Will Wrestle This Year

As per the new media guide, Cody Gardner of VA Tech will wrestle at heavyweight as a true freshman. He has already put on some weight after completing his HS career at 215. Considering the weak state of the 285 LBS class this season, could he AA?

Other changes to the preseason lineup for the Hokies will be true freshmen Chris Diaz at 133 and Matt Ryan at 184.

^^^Cody Gardner is incredibly talented. One aspect that will make it difficult for him to AA this season would be that he is not a big Div I hwt. If, in fact, VT is going to have Cody competing this season, then we would expect to see him in the VT lineup early Nov against Appalachian State.

I actually think it would be better for Gardner to RS this season and have an extra year to get bigger and stronger, but that decision is up to VT and Cody Gardner. I wish him the best, -Stove Pipe
