2017 will be the 8th time since the year 2000 that St. Louis has hosted the NCAA Championships. Here's a rundown of some of the crazier moments that have happened in St. Louis over the years....
2015
Unseeded Zeke Moisey goes on a run to the finals taking out Nahshon Garrett, Eddie Klimara and then Thomas Gilman by fall.
13th Seeded Cody Brewer storms through the 133lb bracket.
Logan Stieber wins his 4th NCAA Title and the Buckeyes get their first team title.
Isaiah Martinez puts the cap on an undefeated Freshman season.
Kyven Gadson pins Kyle Snyder months before Snyder wins a world title.
2012
Freshman Logan Stieber wins his first title in controversial fashion vs Jordan Oliver.
Kyle Dake gets a standing ovation during his interview after initially hearing a few boos from Iowa fans.
A loaded Penn State team laps the field winning their second team title
2009
After a rough start to his senior season J Jaggers pins in the quarters and semis on his way to a 2nd title.
Darrion Caldwell has one of the most memorable matches in NCAA history taking out Brent Metcalf in the finals.
Jordan Burroughs wins the first of his two titles in a loaded 157lb weight class.
Jarrod King, who almost stopped competing due to injuries, comes all the way back to win an NCAA Title as a 12th seed.
2008
Coleman Scott cradles and pins Joey Slaton in :49 in the NCAA Finals.
Brent Metcalf dominates his way to his first NCAA Title in the toughest weight class of all time.
Iowa wins the first of their 3 consecutive NCAA Titles under Tom Brands.
2005
Oklahoma State dominates with 5 NCAA Champions (Esposito, Hendricks, Pendleton, Rosholt, Mocco). Arguably the Best Team of All-Time.
Joe Dubuque wins his first title as a 5th seed. The image of him celebrating is semi-iconic at this point. His hair looks like my son after he gets out of the bathtub.
2004
Jesse Jantzen becomes the first NCAA Champion from Harvard since 1938.
In a year of upsets five returning NCAA Champions from 2003 are not able to repeat (Travis Lee, Johnny Thompson, Teyon Ware, Ryan Bertin, Jake Rosholt)
Troy Letters closes out his rivalry with Tyrone Lewis defeating Lewis in the NCAA Finals.
2000
Carl Perry wins an NCAA Title as an 8th seed. In the process he defeats #1 Doug Schwab, #2 Michael Lightner and #4 Mark Angle.
Though he would fall in the NCAA Finals, Larry Quisel of Boise State beats TJ Williams of Iowa at 157. It was Williams only loss in a Hawkeye singlet.
Byron Tucker of Oklahoma goes undefeated at 174 and makes it 2 NCAA Champions from Virginia, along with Perry. (Big deal at least for me!)
Cael Sanderson continued his undefeated streak defeating Vertus Jones for his 2nd NCAA Title.
This was the last NCAA Title for Iowa under Jim Zalesky.
