Wagner Wrestling, Wrestle-off for Starting Positions
11/4/2008 Staten Island, NY- The Wagner College wrestling team held its first 2008-09 season wrestle-offs early this morning in the Spiro Sports Center Gymnasium.
The wrestle-offs consisted of six matches at 133 pounds, 141 pounds, 149 pounds, 174 pounds, 184 pounds and 197 pounds. In the first match of the day, freshman Jake Villaret (Staten Island, NY / Curtis) defeated sophomore Ryan Cornell (East Islip, NY / East Islip) by an 8-0 decision to take the 141 spot. At 184, sophomore Peter Morano (New Canaan, CT / New Canaan) pinned freshman Vinny Tortorella (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) in 3:40. Junior Nick Keshecki (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Memorial) also earned a pin over sophomore Tyler Harmer (Islip Terrace, NY / East Islip) in 3:51 to take the 133 weight class.
Freshman Ryan Malloy (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph by the Sea) won a 6-3 decision over freshman Joe Vitucci (Coram, NY/ Longwood) at 174. Freshman Nick Dalcero (Atlantic Beach, FL / Fletcher) won 13-9 over Cornell, locking in his spot at 149. In the last match of the day freshman Mark Wagner (Lindenhurst, NY / Lindenhurst) and Tortorella wrestled off for the 197 weight class with Wagner winning 7-2.
Wagner begins its season Saturday, November 8 when the Seahawks are at Boston University. Start time is set for 7:00 PM.
