Harvard Announces 2008-09 Wrestling Schedule

Jay Weiss, the David G. Bunning Head Coach for Harvard Wrestling, has released the 2008-09 schedule for his Crimson squad. Harvard will face some of the nation’s toughest teams this season in preparation for the EIWA and NCAA Championships in March.
Harvard will face six teams that finished in the top-30 at the 2008 NCAA Championships. Three of those teams are rank among the top 12 in the W.I.N Division I Top 20 Preseason Rankings.
The Crimson open the season at the Binghamton Open in Johnson City, N.Y., Nov. 15. It will be the first time on the mat for Weiss’ six freshmen. Two weeks later, the Crimson will being it’s dual meet campaign with three matches at the Journeyman/BRUTE Northeast Collegiate Duals at the Hudson Valley Community College. Harvard is slated to meet preseason No. 5 Missouri, Old Dominion and Virginia.
The Crimson will then take a break for its early dual meet action for the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational (Dec.5-6) and the Midlands Championships (Dec. 29-30). Harvard is set to meet up with Cal Poly, preseason No. 11 Minnesota and Stanford at the Lonestar Duals in Arlington, Texas (Jan.3).
After a three week break from competition for final exams, the Crimson gets into the heart of its dual meet season with matches at Lehigh (Jan. 24) and Army (Jan. 25).Harvard remains on the road for its next three contests, with the first coming against crosstown rival Boston University (Jan. 31). The Crimson begins its Ivy season at Penn (Feb. 7) and Princeton (Feb. 8) before returning home for six straight contests. The Crimson hosts American International College (AIC) Feb. 13, then Brown and Wagner the next day.
Harvard will host Columbia and Hofstra (Feb. 20) and preseason No. 4 Cornell (Feb. 21) during wrestling’s Homecoming/Parent’s weekend. After a week off from competition the Crimson begins the championship season with the EIWA Championships in Philadelphia, Pa. (March 7-8). Two weeks after that, the Crimson will head to the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo.
