ATHENS, Ohio - Head Coach Joel Greenlee, in his 12th season with the program, and the Ohio Bobcat wrestling team announce the schedule for the upcoming 2008-09 season. The Green & White Exhibition will kick things off on Nov. 2, followed by the first road trip to the Michigan State Open on Nov. 9.
The Bobcats will then travel to the Hoosier Duals at Indiana on Nov. 29. The Hoosiers are ranked 16th in the preseason poll, and also competing are Liberty, Rutgers, and San Diego State.
Road dates with the Citadel and Appalachian State highlight a southern swing in early December, followed by a trip out west to the Reno Tournament of Champions on Dec. 18. Just before New Year's, the `Cats will attend the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro, N.C., prior to competing in the Virginia Duals at Hampton to start 2009.
A head-to-head contest with Northern Illinois opens conference action on Jan. 15 in DeKalb. The Bobcats then finally return home for bouts against Michigan State and Buffalo on consecutive January weekends in the
Convo beginning Jan. 18.
After another southern venture to North Carolina and North Carolina State, the MAC schedule resumes with some tough competition. On Feb. 13, Ohio will take on Kent State on the road, the 23rd ranked team in the preseason poll. The next day, preseason No. 19 West Virginia will host the Bobcats before they are again at home in the Convo against Eastern Michigan.
The final home appearance is a big one, as the `Cats will host preseason No. 14 and defending MAC champion Central Michigan on Feb. 22.
This season, Eastern Michigan is hosting the MAC Championships March 6-7, while St. Louis is the site of the NCAAs. Last season, Ohio finished with a 6-16 dual record and tied for fourth in the conference tournament.
