^^^The Army wrestling program is headed by Chuck Barbee, assisted by Ryan Wilman. This past season the Black Knights finished 4th at the early season Oklahoma Gold tournament and 5th at the November Body Bar, won the January New York State collegiate event, won the All-Academy Tournament (over Navy), went about 12-6 in dual meets, placed a strong third at the 2008 EIWA Tournament (6 points ahead of the Mids), and grabbed 32nd at the NCAA’s, with Matt Kyler placing an All-American sixth at 141 pounds.
Under Barbee and Wilman Army’s wrestling future is in good hands and is high-noon bright for 2009. Here is a weight-by-weight guess (not listing the entire roster) at Army’s squad for the coming season –

*133 POUNDS
133 Whitt Dunning – Dunning, from the accomplished Dunning wrestling family, is a senior from Nashville, TN; has placed in numerous events (and won Body Bar) the past three years while starting and spot-starting for the Black Knights, competing at 125/133/141, but not yet placed at the EIWA Tournament; has about 55 career wins, would be possible starter at 133 in 2009, if he can cert down at that weight.
133 Josh Sandhaus – Sandhaus is a soph from CA who went 5-7 in 2008.
133 Travis Coffee – Coffee is a freshman who is a former 2X North Carolina state champ, and went 15-3 at MAPS for 2008.

*174 POUNDS
174 Ryan Mergen – Hard working Mergen (JR/MN) started at this weight this past season, placing second at the NYS event, second at the All-Academies, and going 2-2 at the 2008 EIWA Tournament, and could have a big 2009.
*184 POUNDS
184 Dean Gaier – Gaier us a sophomore out of Ohio, who went about 12-10 this past season at 174.
