2012-13 D1CW MAC Wrestler of the Year: Dustin Kilgore (Kent State) The 2012-13 season saw Dustin Kilgore wrap up the greatest wrestling career in Kent State history. He is now the school's all-time leader in wins (178) and falls (50), while also becoming the school's first NCAA Champion and 3x All-American. Kilgore is only the 6th wrestler to win four MAC Championships. This year he fell just short of becoming a 2x NCAA Champion, falling in the final to Penn State's Quentin Wright. It is the second time that Dustin Kilgore has been named D1CW's MAC Wrestler of the Year, he also earned that honor in 2010-11.
2012-13 D1CW MAC Coach of the Year: Brian Smith (Missouri) For the second consecutive season Brian Smith has been named conference Coach of the Year. Last season he earned the honor in the Big 12 and this season in the MAC. Smith's Missouri Tigers scored 136 points at the MAC Championships, a conference record, along with crowing for individual Champions. All ten Tiger wrestlers qualified for Nationals and five brought home All-American honors. The team finished seventh.
2012-13 D1CW MAC Freshman of the Year: Cody Walters (Ohio) In a weight class nationally that featured a handful of tough Freshman, only Ohio's Cody Walters was able to finish on the podium at the NCAA Championships (8th place). Walters started his Bobcat career with 20 consecutive wins before dropping a match to eventual NCAA Runner-Up Matt Brown of Penn State. Cody won a very deep 174lb MAC weight class which ended up sending 7 wrestlers to the NCAA Championships, two of which were a match short of AA honors. Cody Walters has become only the second Ohio wrestler to be named D1CW Freshman of the Year.
