Our last visit was in LV I believe. Connor thinks Lehigh is the shizzel or something like that. I think it means very much. Says guys on team are serious studs and expects big success over time. He is RS. Says Fisk and Tim D always in position. Call me excited to say he got a take down finally. School is hard work. Went from top 10% to if I work my butt off I might make it. RU wrestling? Are things good, waz up? Contact me at chjonmc@yahoo.com. Art work would be good even if i wasn't a big time fan of a great woman.

All McDs doing well Thank you for asking I hope you are as well. Connor RS this year had an operation and goes back in a few weeks to get screws and p[lates removed Earl, I know this is a college board and you may delete this or use it as you see fit. It is a tremendous analyses and all Greco and FS guys should be interested. I didn't figure out how to start a new thread .Please do as you see fit.i've been watching the video of the russians for years (for obvious reasons) and I think I know why they are so much better than us, and when I say why, you'll understand why our earlier (80's) wrestlers were just as much a force as the Soviets....
POSITION. Okay, this is an obvious statement, but here is how I break it down (and you are of course welcome to argue otherwise) -
Stance vs control - I don't know how or why, but the russians seem to be in better position when they are attempting to set up a shot, and also when defending an opponent's set ups. in particular, there head position is that much better than their opponent's. They stop a lot of shots on head position alone.
Level changes... This is two-part. First, when a Russian takes a shot, their change in level is immediate, drastic, and fast. We all tell our kids that they must change levels to score (obviously), but the russians change levels and stay in great position. So much so that even if there shot is stopped they are able to defend the counter much more effectively. (retreat basically) 2nd part. and this is mind-boggling. The russians make a living off of shooting off an opponent's snap downs. Watch the Heskett Murtazaliev match. Twice Joe does a great job of moving the head with great control, isn't leaning, however the russian, is able to change levels, stay in great position and execute a shot. Subtle, I know, but think about how hard it is to get in on a shot when an opponent is constantly moving/jamming/snapping your head.
I think their level change is what really sets them apart. When they shoot they score. Not too much wasted energy. and they are in DEEP, which again, I credit to their ability to get underneath their opponents.
now think about our great wrestlers... Gable dominated because he took you out of position (brands brothers, kevin jackson, dave schultz). I think our technique has taken a small step back since those days. I'm a young guy, not old enough to have seen the older guys with my eyes, but on youtube, our older wrestlers seem to be a step ahead. I don't know, watching the matches, i really don't get it. we don't seem to be the same wrestlers. I can't believe I'm saying this, but yeah, like some posters have said, i think we have taken a step back in technique.
The balance of that thread on themat under International by rhsalum is also quite good

Thats fine Jon, those are good points and certainly relevant to college wrestling.
By the way, to start a thread look to the upper right hand corner of the messages once are in a discussion board. There is a folder and it says "new thread".
