This young man is the real deal. He is what wrestling is all about. Wrestling is more than just heavy hands and drive em backwards, heavy hands are supposed to just set up shots, and he does it as good as any. He is a moose, but doesn't appear to have a tough time making weight. Strong and quick, skilled at both hitting shots and defending shots. I will be rooting for Q, but if he can't win it all I would rather see Metcalf win than DS.

On a side note, Q may get the unsung hero award. While his frustration needs to be channeled in a more appropriate way (like finishing a shot), staying off his back and never stopping wrestling may have provided a little extra spark for the next wrestler. If nothing else it helped minimize the amount of momentum shift that took place.

ok, I give: who is 'Q'? It can't be one of the other major contenders for this class...like Caldwell, Churella, Roberts (maybe..), and I guess DS is Dustin Schlatter, who has a rather 'real deal' style of wrestling himself. Then there's JP O'Conner of course. He hasn't done too badly this year, and placed 5th last year as I recall. How about Palmer? He naturally must be included in the equation. And then there are all those other possibilities out there, just waiting for their moment to strike, and upset, your favorite # l man...

Sorry for the abbreviation, I am an OSU grad so I will be rooting for Quentin Fuentes. He didn't have the horsepower to run with Metcalf but he never gave up including going for an inside trip (which resulted in another Metcalf takedown) and he never ran out of gas. He just needs to grow into this weight kind of like how Mason had to grow into 174. I wasn't trying to infer he has a big chance of knocking these guys off, but it won't stop me from rooting him on.

Gotcha. I've only seen Metcalf wrestle a couple of times, and once was when he head butted himself out of the Southern Scuffle 3 years ago against Cornell's Dickey -- a match in which Metcalf was stressed, yet leading narrowly. I also watched the film of Caldwell spladling him -- and was sorta shocked at how long Metcalf remained in the same position seemingly without a clue as to how to react, while Caldwell crawled all over him and eventually got the questionable pin. He's a trifle robotic, but a stamina machine, for sure -- sort of like many of the Brand's brand. I'm not overly fond of followers, and there's a certain lack of color and individuality in his wrestling -- and he is a self-confessed Brand's disciple from the gitgo. I don't see him as the main factor at l49 -- but if he does prevail, it will no doubt be more because of his relentless nature rather than his innate skills.

Frey did look bad. One wonders about the wisdom of moving up to 149. A lot of his prowess at lower weights is his ability to use his strength... maybe he's just looking for larger fingers to pop?

Metcalf was relentless against Burroughs from Nebraska at National Duals. Burroughs wrestled on the edge of the mat the entire time and Metcalf worked his butt off to keep him in-bounds. If this match didnt make Burroughs look like the biggest staller/mat flee'er ever then I dont know what would. The worst part was the ref's refused to call it until either late 2nd or early 3rd period when he got only one call and continued to flee/stall.

Brent is doing very well. Would be a great win for J.P. if he can beat 'em. Stamina and strength versus stamina and strength. I think JP's only loss this year against Caldwell wasn't a loss if he had another 10 seconds I hear NCAA officials are not counting Cliff Keene anyway, so he's undefeated in thier eyes. Anybody else hear that?
