The following are some of the top projected matches scheduled to take place within scheduled dual meets. This is only dual meets because I am not projecting tournament results at this point. Of course, some of these dual meets may not happen due to injuries, strategy, etc.
13) 165--Corey Mock (Chattanooga) vs Ethan Ramos (North Carolina)--December 14th @ Atlanta, GA: Ok, just bare with me on this one. This will be the first time that Chattanooga's ace Corey Mock gets to wrestle in a dual against his old school, North Carolina and more interestingly enough the school where his dad, CD, is the Head Coach. I always was intrigued by the intense, yet awkwardness of matches like Jordan Blanton vs Chris Perry with Mark Perry in Blanton's corner. In the end I'm sure its much ado about nothing, but still fun to keep an eye on.
12) 125--David Terao (American) vs Brandon Jeske (Old Dominion)--January 18th @ American: This match may seem like its out of place littered amongst matches between National Champions and multi-time All-American's. It will probably bring more action than you'll see in 2 or 3 matches combined. The first round bout between these two at the NCAA Championships was one of the best of the entire event. Plenty of shots, funk, throws, counters and somehow the final was only 5-3 Terao in a tiebreaker. Personally I'd love to watch it again if any has the footage!
11) 174--Logan Storley (Minnesota) vs Matt Brown (Penn State)--January 25th @ Penn State: It seems like the Storley/Brown/Evans/Kokesh group has been around forever and they all seem to beat each other, with no rhyme or reason. Brown holds a 4-3 career edge over Storley, but Logan holds the most recent win, which came in the NCAA Consolation Semi-Finals. This is a match that we could see somewhere in the Big Ten and NCAA Tournaments again. Maybe in the quarters, semis, finals, consolations, who knows.
10) 125--Joey Dance (Virginia Tech) vs Nathan Tomasello (Ohio State)--November 23rd @ Virginia Tech: This match pits the top Freshman 125lb finisher at Nationals in 2013-14 (Joey Dance) vs possibly the top Freshman from this season. It will also be a good contrast of styles with the slick and quick Dance meeting the physicality of Tomasello. Looking at the Buckeye schedule this is the first match for Nathan Tomasello against an NCAA Qualifier, much less an All-American, so it will be a good litmus test as to exactly how good the Ohio State Freshman can be this year.
9) 157--Dylan Ness (Minnesota) vs Chance Marsteller (Oklahoma State)--November 29th @ Minnesota: This one still might be wishful thinking. We're not entirely sure that Chance Marsteller will be Oklahoma State's starter, but looking forward to this match let's hope so. What better way to test the 4x Undefeated Pennsylvania State Champ than to through him into the lions den against the most dangerous and most exciting wrestler in DI, Dylan Ness. As with the previously previewed match, it appears as if this match would be the first All-American on the schedule for Marsteller. Win or loss...stay away from the message boards after this match!
8) 165--Michael Moreno (Iowa State) vs Nick Moore (Iowa)--November 29th @ Iowa: You've got to have an Iowa/Iowa State match on the list! These two contenders have met three times over the past two seasons. Moore has won both of the regular season dual matchups. Moreno however was victorious at the 2013 NCAA Championships en route to the first of his two All-American finishes. Nick Moore is still looking for his first. The winner of this match should find themselves in the top three or four nationally afterwards.
7) 184--Brett Pfarr (Minnesota) vs Sammy Brooks (Iowa)--February 1st @ Minnesota: Though both of these wrestlers are first time, full-time starters, don't be fooled. Both are Redshirt Sophomores who will be taking the place of a departed multiple-time All-American. By this point of the season, both will likely earn very high national rankings. Frankly both of these young men could be pivotal players in their respective teams NCAA Title chances. A high All-American finish or even an NCAA Title for either wrestler is not out of the realm of possibility.
6) 125--Jesse Delgado (Illinois) vs Thomas Gilman (Iowa)--January 16th @ Iowa: Jesse Delgado will enter the 2014-15 season looking to become the first 3x NCAA Champion at 125 since Stephen Abas. His dual opponent on this night, Thomas Gilman accounted for one of his two losses during his Junior campaign. Gilman defeated Delgado in the Semi-Finals of the Midlands. However, Cory Clark ended up as the starter for the Hawkeyes and never met Delgado that season. It should be noted that both are slated to be at the Midlands, prior to this matchup.
5) 141--Logan Stieber (Ohio State) vs Mitchell Port (Edinboro)--February 15th @ Edinboro: This match would be higher on the list, but it is slated to take place first at the NWCA All-Star Match first. Mitchell Port could represent the biggest challenge for Logan Stieber on his way to his 4th NCAA Title. Lest you forget Port came into the 2014 NCAA Championships as the top seed, not Stieber. He was upset in the Quarterfinals, while Stieber took home title #3. In the previous season, Port became a household name after upending Hunter Stieber during his NCAA Finals run.
4) 125--Nahshon Garrett (Cornell) vs Alan Waters (Missouri)--January 10th @ Cornell: Missouri All-American Alan Waters gave Nahshon Garrett his first collegiate loss in the Finals of the 2012 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, then followed up a week later given him his second loss at the Grapple at the Garden. Garrett got revenge in the NCAA Consolation Finals defeating the top seeded Waters to take third place. Waters redshirted last season with the intent of bulking up for a move to 133. Plans have changed and he is back at 125, a weight class where Garrett reached the NCAA Finals in Waters absence.
3) 133--Aaron Schopp (Edinboro) vs Mason Beckman (Lehigh)--December 21st @ New York, New York: Preseason #1 vs #2. This would be a rematch of this season's NWCA All-Star Match, which is a rematch of last years Midlands Consolation Semi-Finals, which is a rematch of NCWA/All-Star Match, suffice to say these two have history. You've gotta love this potential NCAA Semi or NCAA Finals preview featuring two native Pennsylvanians wrestling for Pennsylvania schools.
2) 149--Hunter Stieber (Ohio State) vs Devin Carter (Virginia Tech)--November 23rd @ Virginia Tech: Two of the favorites at 149lbs are slated to meet in the early season non-conference dual. Hunter Stieber is a 2x All-American who redshirted last season and has yet to officially wrestle at 149. Devin Carter is also a 2x All-American who remarkably came back from what appeared to be a season ending hamstring injury and make it all the way to the NCAA Finals before falling to Hunter's older brother Logan. By my count the last time these two met was in the finals of the 2008 Walsh Ironman when Carter was a Senior and Hunter a Junior. Carter took the title with a 8-4 win
1) 197--J'Den Cox (Missouri) vs Kyle Snyder (Ohio State)--December 14th @ Ohio State: This is the one we've been thinking about all Spring and Summer. I like many others do not rank True Freshman so Kyle Snyder will come into the season unranked, however by this dual he will have already wrestled in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and will likely have earned a very high rank. He carrys some of the most impressive pre-collegiate credential of and incoming Freshman in some time. His opponent J'Den Cox, however, won an NCAA Title last year as a True Freshman. These two have a history with one another and Cox is the last American in Snyder's age group that has defeated him in any style.
